How
To Combat HORRID
Hemorrhoids during Pregnancy.
Hemorrhoids,
Haemorrhoids or Piles, call them what you will, are
delightfully referred to as ‘The Varicose Veins of the
Anus’.
Up to 50%
of pregnant women have the pleasure (not) of developing
the charming collection of swollen veins during the last trimester of
their
pregnancy.
When
pressure is applied to the rectal area the sensitive veins
inside the rectum become swollen and more often than not protrude
outside the
anus.
As your
weight increases during pregnancy they occur due to the
extra pressure from your uterus and sometimes due to the lack of
circulation in
the pelvic region caused by constipation.
Some Tips
to Avoid
Piles and Relieve the Pain.
• To help avoid constipation
you should drink lots of water (the best is often boiled water that has
cooled
slightly)
• Add plenty of
fibre to your diet especially in
the form of fresh fruit and vegetables.
• Try pelvic floor
exercises as these will help with any circulation issues in the rectal
area.
• Washing your rectum
after a bowel movement helps to keep the area clean and avoid swelling
and
itching from occurring.
• Avoid standing up or sitting
down for long durations. Sleeping on your side can avoid pressure on
the rectal
veins.
• Ask your doctor or
pharmacist for a suitable cream or suppository that you can use while
pregnant.
